December Athlete of the Month - Lisa Weber

Your story. Who are you? What do you do when you are not here (job, school, etc)?
I grew up in Lake Bluff and moved to northern California 12 years ago. My husband, our two daughters, and I recently moved back home to Lake Forest four months ago. I had been in real estate for 15 years prior and decided to stay home with our girls once we moved back.
Outside of the gym, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, cooking, and eating.

Past athletic history?
I played sports throughout elementary and high school. I was a former Scout basketball and soccer player. Although I never continued any team sports beyond inter-murals here and there in college, I have always loved to work out. In my 20’s I participated in several Chicago Triathlons.

Why CrossFit? How did you find CrossFit Lake Forest?
For me a good sweat and hard work go hand in hand for all of my workouts. At my last gym, we had something similar to CrossFit, but I’m finding the real deal is much more enjoyable! I have had a few friends who have tried to get me to do this for years, but I was always too intimidated to begin the journey.  I always thought that I had to be in the best shape to even begin CrossFit. I can attest this is completely false!  I knew I wanted something tough, so I finally decided to take a leap. I have come to enjoy the challenges that come with CrossFit!

What do you love about CrossFit Lake Forest?

The people for one! The coaches and other CrossFitters have been completely supportive since day one. Hands up 8:30 class!! The environment has always been friendly and welcoming.

Favorite workout? Least favorite?
I am a sucker for sprints, but tend to give the ole eye roll when it comes to pull-ups.

Goals or things your working on?
Although they are not my favorite, my goal is to ditch the jumping pull-up, and actually do one for real. And yes, I would be happy with just one. The handstand push-up looks pretty badass too!

One piece of advice about CrossFit, life, anything!!
While training for a triathlon years ago, someone said, “Start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.”  I often repeat the mantra of less whining more doing in my head a during class.
