April Athlete of the Month - Jason Hauer

Your story. Who are you? What do you do when you are not here (job, school, etc)?

I worked at Caterpillar for 18 years. Caterpillar allowed my family to travel all over the world and we lived in Brussels, Belgium and Geneva, Switzerland.  Then my wife (Kim) and I decided that our family couldn't keep up with her extremely demanding work/travel schedule so I became a stay-at-home dad in 2011. While being a stay at home dad, I was elected to our local Board of Education in Peoria, IL.  I was also an elected official in Peoria County.I love to hang out with friends....dinner, bars, concerts, etc.  I can't sit still and have to be doing something constantly.  I am currently working on remodeling our basement.

Past athletic history?

I played a lot of sports until I was 16, but became more interested in getting a car so I started working.

Why CrossFit? How did you find CrossFit Lake Forest?

I have always been interested in fitness, but sometimes the hardest part is getting started. Not being active for so many years has been a real obstacle to overcome with stamina and flexibility.  I came to CrossFit Lake Forest because Coach Jay was my youngest daughters volleyball coach.

What do you love about CrossFit Lake Forest?

I love CrossFit because I like the sense of community and seeing everyone in the morning. We all have individual personalities and quirks and that makes it even more interesting.  It's great to see personal development as well. Better flexibility, strength, and mastering CrossFit movements. CrossFit gives me structure in my day and some folks even expect me to come to class everyday.

Goals or things your working on?

Overhead movements are difficult for me due to shoulder mobility.  I would like to get to a point where I can do a respectable snatch.  I did get my first strict hand stand push up this year though!

One piece of advice about CrossFit, life, anything!

CrossFit advice....starting is the hardest part. Most of the athletes started at a low skill level and have worked hard to get where they are at.  Stay with it and keep moving, there's no judgment from me or others.
