Meet our July Athlete of the Month - Colleen Jaacks

Your story. Who are you? What do you do when you are not here (job, school, etc)?

I live in Chicago and work as a Marketing Manager at Terlato Wines in Lake Bluff. On the weekends I try and stay outside as much as possible and see friends. I also spend a ton of time in Wisconsin at my family’s lakehouse boating, waterskiing, swimming, etc.

Past athletic history?

I played several sports when I was younger, mostly Volleyball. A few years before joining CrossFit, I was part of a small group personal training gym that was mostly interval training with some deadlifts & presses.

Why CrossFit? How did you find CrossFit Lake Forest?

One of my closest friends has been doing CrossFit for several years, and I knew she loved it and was in great shape because of it. I wanted to get back in shape and lose weight, so I finally asked her if she knew any boxes around Lake Bluff. She said yes (her and her husband are friends with Jay) and brought me into CFLF for my first class. I was sore for a full week and was so nervous to come back on my own but I’m so glad I did! I’m so much stronger now than I’ve ever been, not only physically but mentally as well, which has helped me in outside of the gym. CrossFit keeps me hooked because of the daily challenge of each WOD, and it’s fun finding out what I can do with a barbell!

What do you love about CrossFit Lake Forest?

The people, the coaches, the camaraderie, the competition, and the occasional visit from one of the box dogs.

Favorite workout? Least favorite?

Favorite: Anything with Cleans, Jump rope, or sled pushes/pulls

Least Favorite: Burpees and assault bike

Goals or things you're working on?

I am SO close to getting toes-to-bar! After a year I’m still working on everything, but my goal is to start RXing more WODs this year.

One piece of advice about CrossFit, life, anything!!

For CrossFit: Just because you can’t do it today doesn’t mean you can’t do it someday.

For Life: A bad decision is better than no decision at all. In other words…keep moving forward!
